...and TBH even if I was convinced of the single space (not gonna happen), the double is such a conditioned reflex by now that I wouldn't be able to stop doing it if I tried.

If you really want to override the internet's default settings and include double spaces after your sentences just type    and browsers will parse it as a double space instead of contracting it to just one
