but seriously though I think the Films have their merits but as a pureist who read the Books first then I feel it's all a bit broken up and misses important steps in the books.

although there are quite a lot of cringeworthy mushy sentimentality in Peter Jackson's films that aren't present in the books particularly the relationship between Frodo and Sam in the Book is more Master and Servant which bond into a stronger friendship as it progresses until they come out as equals, in the film they are quite best-matey at the begining and by the end you're almost shouting "Get a Room!"
