and you're left with a pretty dull, narrow, repetitive series of chores. The actual game itself isn't all that much of a game.
After a while it's like doing housework with yr thumbs.

Shooter = shoot, Driving sim = drive etc etc.
I know what you're getting at, the missions can get tedious. I just really enjoy open world/sandbox games rather than linear BS.

Red Dead Redemption is great for a dozen hours or so, before you gradually realise nothing new's going to come along... maybe I'm just spoilt.
Favorites of mine (this gen) are Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which both keep it interesting for a hell of a long time.
All-time favourite is Thief 2: The Metal Age, from way back, but a beautifully subtle thing to play.

I do admit to not giving it a lot of time though.I'll definitely give it another go sometime.

Fallout 3 takes its time getting you into its stride, but once it does... believe me, it's worth the groundwork.

TPS are hard. At least for an FPS player like myself, I didn't do too bad on RDR though, I did enjoy free roam more though.

i think they did a great job with the look of the game, but the missions were too damn repetitve, and what was up with the multiplayer, you end up just running from hideout to hideout trying to level up.

i finished it 100%, decent enough game, this upcoming L.A. Noir looks interesting, although i doubt it will have anything on gta5 when it's released.

LA Noire is a day one purchase for me, along with Brink.
It most certainly won't live up to GTA4 heights, but it's something different.
They are pushing the envelope.

but i do prefer the gta series, especially for it's cutscenes dialogue and acting, it's fucking exceptional and a joy to watch, same goes for red dead redemption, i was blown away with the whole feel of the game through the cutscenes.
