# That's what you get with the current First past the post system
which is less likely with AV
So change your end line to 'for fucks sake vote AV' and jobs a good'un

With AV, if there were only those 3 parties and those initial results -
Conservative were least voted for so they would have been disqualified.
The votes from the conservative favouring members of the public would then be reassessed to see who they preferred as their second choice, Labour or Lib Dem.
Those figures would be added to the Labour and Lib Dem totals and one of them would be over 50%, providing the country with a winner the majority were happy with.

# Yes but,
If, after making your first choice, the other two candidates were complete cunts,
would you have the option of abstaining from 2nd and 3rd choices, or would you be compelled to vote for someone you had absolutely no faith in,
thereby theoretically getting the government you DIDN'T want.
Personally, I won't be voting for any of the 3 major parties.

# yes you would
If there are 10 people running you don't have to mark 1-10, you could stop at any point to show your hatred of the remainder (I think)

# Yep
if you want, you can just write "1" next to your first choice, and stop there.

# Isn't this what most people will, in all probability do,
thereby rendering AV pointless?

# it's what some people will do
thereby rendering their chance of a result they aren't 100% against pointless

# It's what a minority will do
and that minority are mostly likely voting for fringe/extreme parties.

Like the Conservatives.

Boom boom!

# We've got a government no one voted for now
so what's the problem...
