Ah, the terminology...A 'lifer' is the first time you've seen a species; a 'tick' is an entry on a list, be it year, life or trip list (as well as an arachnid that tends to appear on you when birding in rainforests a lot, the feckers); 'twitching' is running off to look at a bird someone else has reported. I could go on, but it's dull, even to birders.
