Same here
but am 3/4s of the way through the first book and have found it very engaging. Fantasy is not my normal bag.

The thing is even as the books go on, they're still not that fantastical.
The fantasy elements are there, but they're usually glossed over in favour of politics, sex and violence, not always in that order.

Absolutely - there is a magic in the world but it's as if such things are frowned upon
and best not talked about by the people. The fantasy element is a subtle backdrop to a very rich plot with more twists and turns than a Alton Towers ride.
