Greek for 'cut'. In grammatical sense, a word is cut and another inserted inbetween. Abso-bloody-lutely.
Same word stem as atom (uncut-table/indivisible) which of course it isn't but those silly Greeks knew fack all about nuclear physics
EDIT: I didn't have to look that up, cos I learned it from QI!
