Bear with me because this is gonna be a bit long...
I've often thought that scientists should have to calculate a "skynet potential" score for any piece of research that they do.
Scores would range between 0 (no chance that this invention could aid in the development of a mutinous supercomputer) and 10 (I'm actually developing a murderous supercomputer).
Any research with a score of 5 or greater would be banned forever.
