I've met a few genuinely nice people from online and some of them have stayed good friends
but in terms of expanding my social circle my problem is I don't drink which has a surprising knock-on effect to socialising - I tell people I don't drink and they look at me as if I'd just told them I don't breathe... :-/

I had exactly the same problem socialising, people just don't want to know, and it made dating difficult too, as in there is no "Oh pop round tonight and we'll watch a video and have a bottle of wine, and pretend we got so drunk we accidently slept together"

When you're young you're almost blackmailed to go clubbing/get wasted - and if you don't, you're ostracised.
But if you want to meet people there doesn't seem to be any reasonable alternative... I tend to bounce from house party to house party, seems more enjoyable :)
