I love that book
And the film always brings a tear to my eye when he blows himself up.

Did he blow himself up?
the last bit I remember was the challenge vs the alien thing.

he blows up in the film
He beats the monster in book.

Oh, I didn't see you reference the film.
He dared the monster to fly into the sun didn't he? I definitely remember some rich guy buying him an oil liner to eat and them living happily ever after.

Blows himself up and leaves us at the mercy of whatever alien race sent him in the first place.
I know he's seen rebuilding himself at the end, but something, somewhere out in space, created him to wipe us all out - and they'll probably try again.

Shit, really? I haven't seen the film for ages,
I thought he was an experiment gone wrong or something. That's a classic science fiction downer ending right there.

The Space Bat Angel Dragon
He totally beat it's ass in a challenge and sent that fucker back to space. I think the book ends with him living in a scrap yard eating tyres?

A much more satisfactory ending than the film.
He had a slightly melted ear.

Since we're on a stop-motion tip this week, how about a track (and animated video) from
the musical version of The Iron Man by Pete Townshend (1:02..)?
