# Hello.
we attempted to deliver a parcel today by gently tapping on your door and then running away.

please allow 3 days for your item to get lost in our depot on the other side of town.

# THIS IS TRUTH.
Last time I had a delivery, I was sitting about a metre from the front door downstairs doing work. I heard a van pull up and a few seconds later there was a barely audible knock. "Not making that trip again!", thought I, leaping to my feet and throwing open the front door. It scared the shit out of the guy who was already halfway down the path :D

# Royal mail are as bad for this
I was in the kitchen next to the door when the postman put a card through the letter box without knocking first. He just shrugged and walked off when i asked him why he hadn't bothered knocking

# i swear sometimes they don;t even bother to take the parcels from the depot
just a big pile of those cards.

# I've not lived in Britain for years
but I can guarantee that this is what they do in Norway. I had a bunch of parcels - all between 20 and 30 kg - shipped up with DHL from Germany. So they say they're delivering on a particular day, between 8 and 5. So I sit in the kitchen, where the buzzer for the door downstairs is. No bell goes all day. Next day the post office deliver a little slip telling me that they rang the bell but I wasn't in.

Obviously I complained to DHL and a week later someone bothered to reply to my complaint saying "Go to your local post office and talk with them".

So at least I know where I'll never spend money again. It's not just the inconvenience of having to go to a post office - without a car; I do not own a car - and lug repeated 20kg boxes back home. It's the fact that they out and out lie and don't give a shit when you catch them out on it.

# That's a common occurrence
I'd say an everyday occurrence but thankfully I'm not yet bankrupt. It's £11 for a bottle of wine in the shop (not shops, you can only buy wine from Vinmonopolet), roughly £3 for a tin of shit lager in the supermarkets. My current plan is to move back to Germany, where I will immediately destroy my liver in amazement at the 80c/bottle in supermarkets and £4 for wine, or to move back to Blighty which will even feel sane after this place.
