Jeffrey Jacob 'J. J.' Abrams is an American film and television producer, screenwriter, director, actor and composer. He is well known for his work in the genres of action, drama, and science fiction (I could have used the somewhat more famous Jewish director, Allan Stewart Konigsberg, or as he is now known Woody Allen, but I chose not to as he has been accused of kiddyfiddling). JJ Abrams is of the Jewish faith.

The brit milah (Hebrew: בְּרִית מִילָה‎ [bit mila], Ashkenazi pronunciation [bis mil], 'covenant of circumcision'; Yiddish pronunciation, bris [bs]) is a Jewish religious male circumcision ceremony performed on the eighth day of a male infant's life by a mohel. The brit milah is followed by a celebratory meal (seudat mitzvah).

Thus we can assume that JJ Abrams has undergone this ritual.

'Cut' is a popular slang term for circumcised.

This all leads to the punchline - 'Director's Cut', which has two or even three meanings. The first, using the possessive form of the apostrophe, indicates that the film is either :

1) a specially edited version of a film, and less often TV series, music video, commercials, comic book or video games, that is supposed to represent the director's own approved edit. 'Cut' explicitly refers to the process of film editing: the director's cut is preceded by the rough editor's cut and followed by the final cut meant for the public film release, or

2) When used in combination with the possessive 'JJ Abrams' Bris', to suggest that the film is about his circumcision.

The other interpretation is that the apostrophe is used in the contraction sense, i.e. 'The director is cut'.

# To explain further, I shall call upon the noted comedy actor, Mark Heap.

Does that help? If not, I have a GFY of his colleague, Kevin Eldon, that I could utilise.
