For those of you who need an explanation...JJ Abrams is Jewish (I could have used Woody Allen as an example but he's a bit dodgy). The Bris is the Jewish ritual of male circumcision (thus it is likely that Abrams has been circumcised, or "cut" as some call it). Thus "Director's cut" becomes a play on the use of the apostrophe - the possessive (cut of the director, a cinematic term regarding editing, or even, given the possessive use of the apostrophe in "JJ Abrams's Bris" to suggest the film is *about* the circumcision of JJ Abrams) and contraction (the director is "cut").
