Drugs offenders get forgiven eventually - Tim Allen, Angus Deayton, Robbie Williams, etc. Knobbing an adult other than your official life partner gets little more than a disapproving look from the media. Causing death by reckless driving or beating the crap out of your partner will get a bit of tabloid coverage but your loyal fans will stick up for you. But get convicted of a sex offence or 12 against young children and you can forget it.
