
There are an estimated 30,000 to 50,000 children die EVERY SINGLE DAY due to simple preventable causes such as lack of sanitation, vaccination, clean water or mosquito nets. No one gives a fuck, because they aren't littering the beaches of Europe.
There is war with specific targeting of civilians in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Sierra Leone, DRC, Somalia and many other countries, but the figures for deaths actually pale into insignificance compared to death numbers from preventable diseases.
Of course, if we did anything about it, then it'd have to go hand in hand with some serious population control measures, but the fact still remains that if you want to save the largest number of humans then dig wells and send mosquito nets to the developed world, rather than picking up people in the med.
