# wooo liquid nitrogen...
we had a mad man in our college lab who would do a demo involving smashing a frozen banana off the bench. ahhh the joys of science!

# you can put your
hand in it

it won't hurt as long as you take it out quick enough.

I like to watch it dance

# hmmmmm
I guess the heat of your hand causes it to evaporate... until your hand starts cooling down?
(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:33, archived)
# could you
snap a finger off if you left your hand in?
(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:35, archived)
# i remember
someone telling me about this. it's summat like the evaporated layer of vapour acts as an insulator. for a bit. or something.
(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:36, archived)
# I have a mental image of a layer of reciently evaporated gas protecting your skin for a bit
like a gas glove if you will!

# i just
ignored what they were saying and continued to freeze my mate's lunch.
(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:38, archived)
# prudent course of action
I'm not sure there are any non practiacal joke related uses of Niquid Nitrogen...
(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:40, archived)
# actually,
there are.. liquid nitrogen is THE best way to make icecream, and just about the only way to make alcoholic icecream..
(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:44, archived)
# Huzzah
for alcoholic ice-cream!
(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:48, archived)
# I sit corrected
I'm not going to stand for this.

# What is the temperature range
For semiconducting properties to be apparant?
(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:33, archived)
# its like under 1 kelvin or something?
maybe even micro kelvin?
(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:34, archived)
# splash one kevin
(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:44, archived)
# very
cold.
(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:35, archived)
# you mean
superconducting

and it depends on the material..

(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:36, archived)
# Agh!
More semiconducting!

Make them stop......!

(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:41, archived)
# super
superconducting

semiconducting is easy and will happen in Silicon up until about 600 Kelvin (813 C (I think))

superconducting requires liquid Helium temperatures and is much more difficult and has no resistance and josephson junction.

and run on sentences
(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:44, archived)
# and then there's splendidconducting
which is like superconducting, but at room temperature and all this for the ridiculous monthly sum of £4.89
(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:48, archived)
# ooh
:)
(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:53, archived)
# Agh!
Next it'll be MOSFET's and then I'm going to have to cry...

(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:49, archived)
# ok
I'll stop

But I have to start studying for that exam pretty soon...
(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:53, archived)
# Nah...
... They'll pass almost anyone these days for an electrical engineering course...

Really - I've been in on the meetings....
(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:57, archived)
# I know
but I'm in grad school, and would like to keep my fellowship...
(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 16:59, archived)
# Grad school?
As in Phd?
(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 17:06, archived)
# well
just my master's for now
(, Tue 29 Apr 2003, 17:09, archived)
# Ahhh...
I work with Phd students & RA's doing E.E simulations and the like...

...Well, when I'm not doing pr0n sites to make up for the crappy wages anyway....

# cue
BobaFET joke.....
