# aluminum/aluminium are both correct ways of spelling it.
aluminum was the original way, but the scientists of the day wanted it to sound more fashionable and in
fitting with other recent 'iums' of the day, so added it at the end. it split opinion and some went one way, others, the other.

i'm sure there's more to it than that, but that's it in it's basic form.
