Hello! Have you really lurked here for 15 years?
I looked up some of the words in your picture.

since 2002 or 2003, I'd say
The oldest b3ta email I still have is [b3ta] Issue 75: "All toad. No hole." from 7th Feb 2003.
The first entry in that mail was:
I just clicked the link to play the game and got forwarded through a bunch of highly reputable looking URLs, and finally ended up with a Flash Upgrade for my system! Handy!

The first entry in that mail was:
: ANIMAL, VEGETABLE OR MINERAL QUIZ
What the fuck is it?
Artamnesia writes:

thing you ask. But can you tell from the 16

:) I stopped updating Flash last year, I think I've only seen the placeholder appear twice since that time.
Firefox got a bit heavy-handed with it too, forcing updates in order to view content. At a certain point I just decided it wasn't worth bothering with any more. I believe it was installed on something like 95% of systems at one point. I wonder what the numbers are now.

I have a nasty suspicion it requires some intelligence, which seems unfair on most of us to be honest

There was a guy named Mendel who liked mating pea plants together.
Some peas plants were short and some were tall. He noticed that if you bred a short plant with a tall one, all the offspring were tall.
But then when he bred those tall offspring with each other, you'd get a 3 tall plants for every Ringo.
Everyone thought he was a loony.
