In the example of free food giveaways that cost is offset by the retailer, it's not like you're having to pay for it in taxes, so to the customer it really is free.

As I said above, fried chicken is an issue only because of the Bernie Sanders/Col. Sanders imagery. Some of my best friends are fried chickens.
