at the idea of placing ad's to get traffic to a blog, aside from anything else - I don't know anyone that's ever done that. If it's any good, people will find it. (I know that wasn't your point, but hey, I'm tired!)

the other way round... they yelled at me... or more to the point took me out for a talk. They want me to do more corporate blah and im going off the rails on longshots. (they kind of seem to be working though)

pretty much every site has some opinion on it, implicit or otherwise. though having said that, advertising your personal blog on google is incredibly egocentric, no matter who you are.
