L33t, or 31337, or any other similar spelling, is meant to represent the work 'Elite' and refers to any sort of typing where letters are uselessly represented as numbers/other characters.
e.g. /\/\0nk3y = monkey, because it kinda sorta looks like it, but not really.
i.e. It's stupid.
