# when a mobile makes a call
it produces sparks inside. sparks + petrol vapour = what? the people who designed the cars probably knew that their remote locks would be used near petrol stations, so made them work on something that didn't produce sparks. it's quite sensible for a car company to worry about petrol.

# And of course the running
of a car engine is safe too
No sparks there, nosiree.

# Well...
Ok, so the key fob may not have a spark, but say if some metal inside my car caused a spark as the doors lock, or say if someone was to run over to my vicinity with a large piece of flint and rub it down the side of my 206? Then what??

# Well

# Its cos of liability
the petrol companies don't want to be sued by people talking on their mobiles not looking where their going & getting run over or tripping over or not paying attention & spraying petrol at a high pressure all over the forecourt...
(, Fri 24 Oct 2003, 16:04, archived)
# That makes
a lot more sense actually

# mobile blowey uppy
A spark from my mobile once caused a leaky bic lighter in my trouser pocket to explode. It was quite alarming.

# odds
The odds of it happening are 1 in 0.00000000000000014 or 1 in 1*10-18 which is quite low really.
