While the empire states building looked better, the view was only 180' at one time.
The WTC tower allowed you to see 360' around, but only downwards at an angle of 45', so it was trippy, just divorced from the crowd below. Helicopters flew below, and the city was silent.
Only worth it in afternoon, so sunset over hudson, then city lit up. Or these days at anytime really for ghoulish enjoyment or breathing asbestos.

The funny thing is I'm surprised there weren't more college students at the end of their j1 (irish student work visa) there.
Good old al quaeda, did it in the mornign, so all the irish srtudents were still bollocksed drunk in their - or someone elses - beds...

went up both WTC towers on the Friday before it happened.
We had cocktails in the Window of the World bar, some people had just got married and were having a reception.
Flew home on Saturday night and all my postcards arrived on Tuesday (11/9) and were waiting on all our friends' doormats.

I remember the elevators were a bit shaky and being reassured that the building security - bag searches etc. - was pretty good.
