# i've been getting back to basics - graphite pencils on paper:
the results are worrying (ie not photorealistic, compared to the photoshop ones...!)

big

but i'm going to keep going becuase it should be good practice

# aye, i spotted a couple of those, you seem ace at texture but slightly behind on the actual makeup of the draeing
i can't drawto save my life, hence inormally do fractals and things which eliminate the need too

# yep, in my defence though,
this was the first drawing i'd done in years :) I've gotten a few tips now to do with proportion and layout so hopefully that'll help. You should give it a try, I think you'd do well. I'll email you some tutorials i found sometime if you like.

# that'd be really handy
i've only found ones designed for either preschoolers or the mentally challenged*

i'll dig out a pencil later on and give them a crack

# nifty tutorial
i think i might get back into doing some freehand sketching in the near future too... either that or i will start scanning in my old stuff and retouching it and colouring it

# i was really tempted to retouch
the above sketch - in fact I had done, I'd moved the features around to the correct positions and everything in photoshop... but it felt like cheating so i didn't save it
edit: i'm not saying theres anything wrong with retouching though, just avoiding it on my own stuff for a bit

# i don't consider retouching cheating
as long as i am the one who is doing all the work. I know that i can do it just as well in either traditional media or digital, i just prefer to do the retouching in digital because it's easier to undo errors if i screw up somewhere, whereas if i am working with pencil it tends to smudge if i erase or with ink it's damn near impossible to correct an error

# i'm on a self improvement mission at the moment,
so hopefully keeping my mistakes visible will spur me on... :)

# thanks
the art teacher didn't think so...

i got a B on that one... but then again my art teacher was a crackhead. i can honestly say i learned nothing in art class.

# most art teachers
have no clue what art is. i always despised being graded on what they thought was "good" or "bad". grr.

# yeah
i forget what stuff my teacher liked, but i was only there for the credit
