They think anything that is coincidental is ironic, because they never learned the proper definition of the word. Either that or they are too shallow and bobble-headed to understand that irony is the specific set of circumstances in which the exact opposite of what you would expect to happen, happens. 10,000 spoons when you need a knife is not ironic. Needing a knife, not being able to find one, and then randomly being stabbed in the throat. . . ah, now there's some irony.
