A few weeks back, ntl sent us a debt collection letter for an outstanding bill for £40.
We phoned ntl and informed them that the account in question was not only paid up but was cancelled in May!
'They acknowledged that it was indeed closed in May and up to date.
Today we get a letter from the solicitors acting on behalf of the debt collection acency for an outstanding bill of £40!
That company is such a bunch of arse-trees

Make sure and don't leave it to chance, or you'll end up with more than a visit from the baliffs I think (credit ratings etc.)

but if the debt is in the hands of an agency then the debt has been _sold_ and is no longer in the hands of ntl. you need to put them in a sueable position if they're ever going to buy the debt back.

Selling debts? Is it me or does that sound strange?
Anyway, I knew a lass who rented a house and then found she couldn't get a loan or anything cos the person who used to live there had a bad debt and never paid it off. Seems debts live with the address and not the person at times.

but yes, that's the function of a debt collection agency. they trade debts, they take your sofa.

She was chasing down that letter to send to credit agencies. I think she wanted to get a double bed cos she only had a single (no! everyone should have a double bed!) only to find no-one would sell her one cos "she had a bad debt". 'Cept it wasn't her debt.

second time the word sue has popped up in conversation about this subject.
I am used to ntl's incompetence. Been with them for years. One of the first 10 houses in the UK with cablemodem dontchaknow.
Fortunately it goes the other way too and we have had 3 months at a time where they have completely forgotten to bill us (for full package plus modem)
They couldnt piss down their own leg.
