# 'lo, miss!

# 'lo back attcha
having some holiday cheer?
(, Sat 25 Dec 2004, 3:44, archived)
# Had a few over for dinner
which was excellent, by the way.

Quiet, now.

#
how nice. I will be making the trek to the great state 'o' Maine in the morn and hope to be rewarded with the makings of a holiday meal.
(, Sat 25 Dec 2004, 3:51, archived)
# Deep in the woodsy-woods, or one of the populated regions?
*jealous*
(, Sat 25 Dec 2004, 3:55, archived)
#
semi-woodsy populated area. First to York, then Kennebunk.
(, Sat 25 Dec 2004, 3:59, archived)
# I've always wanted to visit Maine.
it's one of the few states I haven't been to.

It seems like such lovely country.
(, Sat 25 Dec 2004, 4:01, archived)
# It gets scarier
the further north you go. The people start getting rather strange...

[my own opinion, of course]
(, Sat 25 Dec 2004, 4:04, archived)
#
I haven't been way up in a while, but yes, that's the case as I recall.
(, Sat 25 Dec 2004, 4:07, archived)
# Is that so?
I've seen my share of backwoods folk, but I'm not too familiar with the hermit types.

Is that the sort?
(, Sat 25 Dec 2004, 4:07, archived)
# Yeah.
uber-hermits up there where the highways come to an end and the dirt roads carry on.

Might not help that I have brown skin and chose to go exploring up there with a gay friend (who insisted on wearing earrings). We felt sorta different.
(, Sat 25 Dec 2004, 4:11, archived)
# I can imagine.
Were they friendly at all, though?

You never know with some people. Some are prejudiced against anyone different, and others are curious. Did you get to talk to many people?
(, Sat 25 Dec 2004, 4:17, archived)
# they don't talk
or... at least I never met one that did, beyond the required amount.
(, Sat 25 Dec 2004, 4:17, archived)
# Okay, that's odd.
I wonder what motivates them to live that way?
(, Sat 25 Dec 2004, 4:20, archived)
# It works for older folks, I think.
New Hampshire's not much different. Basically they don't bother anyone and they don't want anyone to bother them.
(, Sat 25 Dec 2004, 4:21, archived)
# I suppose that's a fair way to be.
(, Sat 25 Dec 2004, 4:24, archived)
#
the coast is spectacular.
(, Sat 25 Dec 2004, 4:09, archived)
# Do you know of anywhere with a good beach?
Every time I go up there, I get stuck in some area with a bunch of private beaches (or a strip of beach 50 feet long that you have to pay $10 to park at). Very upsetting.
(, Sat 25 Dec 2004, 4:13, archived)
# there's
a little inlet on Cape Neddick on the coast road between York and Ogunquit that I'm partial to. Ogunquit's not bad, but it's full of Quebec tourists in the summer and parking is a problem. Thers's Long Sands and Short Sands in York, but they're pretty touristy too.

I really don't know too much about anything further north.
(, Sat 25 Dec 2004, 4:20, archived)
# okay... thanks.
I think I'll take a long road trip during the summer and see if I can find some good spots.
(, Sat 25 Dec 2004, 4:37, archived)
# I imagine.
We've nothing but flat, boring beaches down this way. Great for laying about on, but the only scenery to speak of is usually on two legs.

/edit: Fort Fisher, down towards Wilmington is nice, though.
