# That's the whole crux of the issue
they may have symbolically destroyed their licenses but they are still registered as owning a license therefore not in violation of not having one - however this means their entire protest was stupid and merely a publicity stunt. If they had refused to ever buy a tv license ever again this would have been more meaningful and also a lot more fun when they all get took to court and made to pay their pension money in fines.

so they won't bother people who are registered, otherwise they would have to inspect everybody's license.
Even if they did make a call on them, all they would have to do is request the registration details from the main computer, just like in the case of when someone accidently loses or misplaces their license. So it is very unlikely that they will get fined for burning their license - now if some of them had been stupid enough to burn their driving licenses then the roads would have become instantly safer over night ;)

The details of people who do not have a TV license contravenes the Data Protection Act, If you get a letter, or a visit from the TV licensing bods, tell them to Fuck Off and to remove your details from their computers and never to bother you again.

and if they have detected that you own a tv but your name isn't on the register he will make a visit and will earn £30 (i think) for ever license bought on the doorstep and he won't take any bullshit either.

TV works fine without one.
Last time I was visited by an inspector blokey was about six years ago.
I pointed out that it is not an offence to not have a TV licence and he should go forth and multiply.
Went back indoors and discovered I'd missed an important bit of Eastenders.

Which is why keeping details of everyone who does not have a licence contavenes teh Data Protection Act.
The assumption being made is that if you do not have a licence you are commiting a criminal act, whereas there are perfectly legitamate reasons for not having a licence.

I know I'm odd for not having a TV, but should I really be punished by having the licensing people send me letters all the time? I don't mind them coming round, because - intelligently - they always do it when I am work. But they resolutely refuse to listen to letters telling them to fuck off because I have no intention of buying a TV.

And those posters get on my tits too. A license or a £1000 fine? Wrong. A license, a £1000 fine or NO FUCKING TV.

Sorry, it's been annoying me for the last ten years.
