# so I hear.. I might wait until it`s dirt cheap and get a copy

# no analog twiddly paddy joystick thing for the PC
.. by the way, have you been reading up on this Linux kernel row between Linus Torvalds and the bloke who wrote the software used to version control the kernel source?

time to buy a new Amiga? ;)

# Linus is being a twat, strangely.
BitKeeper guy's a cunt (licensing terms change week to week) and Tridgell's not releasing any software based on his work so it's all moot.

Get yerself a PSX Joypad to USB thingy.

# think it`ll just blow over, or be the beginning of a nasty rot?
(, Sun 24 Apr 2005, 0:40, archived)
# Nah,
it's pretty much finished.

Perens went "Oi! Torvalds nooo!" and Linus said "Oh... sorry guys. Carry on!"

# have you tried teh ubuntu yet?

# I tried it - not bad. Lots of potential
but I'm a Slackware devotee now. It's about cunt rolls apparently.

# That's how it seems to me.
Based on reading El Reg's account of it all. From what I can tell Tridgel has done exactly the sort of thing with BitKeeper that he did with Samba. With Samba everyone praised him, and with BitKeeper everyone praises him apart from Linus, who's mates with the BitKeeper author. Bruce Perens has told Linus that he's being hypocritical and to cool it, and I suspect that it'll blow over soon.

EDIT: Fuzzbucket just edited in the essential points of this post far more efficiently, damn him :-)

# That's pretty much the story.
BitKeeper's not an appropriate system for the project anyway given GNU's pride in software self-sufficiency. Then again, Linux might be obsolete to the GNU project as early as 2053 when they have a feature complete Hurd :)
(, Sun 24 Apr 2005, 0:49, archived)
# Arf!
You and your insanely optimisic release dates for GNU Hurd ;-)
(, Sun 24 Apr 2005, 0:54, archived)
# Well, there's a Debian/Hurd testing build at the moment.
That could be stable as early as 2070 ;)
(, Sun 24 Apr 2005, 0:57, archived)
# aye hope so
just not nice to see them throwing handbags at each other in public

.. and if samba was a woman, I`d pork her
(, Sun 24 Apr 2005, 0:49, archived)
# Samba's unix extensions
make NFS pretty much redundant. No need to run RPC either, so SMB turns out to be more secure in this case... Fucking weird :)

# woo!
