large pictures that are more like photos are better if saved as a jpeg. Gif format is used either for animated pictures or for pictures with large areas of the same color

Yeah, usually jpeg makes the words all blurry though...but I'll try it...

If you're using just MSpaint, you don't have much of a choice. But most other programs have an option to change how much the image is compressed. If you turn it down to 20-25% compression, that will balance out the size but still keep sharp lines sharp
