(This is a little dude I've been working on. Any helpful advice on shading etc would be *much* appreciated)

# make a 3-D model (or maquette is it's called in the industry)
then light it from different angles to see the effects of shadow on it.

you could then take photos and rotoscope it.

it's a very nice pic as well, have a WOO!

# Ooooh, 3D modelling?
That sounds like it requires talent of a sort.

But yes, good call, I'll go buy some plastacine later : )

# Have fun
it's doesnt have to be a perfect model, just a shape so you can see how the light works on it.

# Yay, this does sound like immense fun.

# Hes lully
small tips from someone who can only give advice and is actuall a bit rubish at drawing himself; the hand holding the gun needs to be bigger, the handle needs to be at a bit of an angle and it might be worth giving him longer fingers and adding/changing one to a thumb. As a very minor thing move the glass of the helmet down so it meets the colar. The trouble is the amount of work this would take does not actually add that much to it so I would stick to it how it is

# No, no, I'm willing to spend time to make him perfect
You're very right, last night I was thinking about giving him long spindly fingers rather than short stumpy ones. Thankyou!
(, Wed 11 Jan 2006, 11:06, archived)
# How about 2 fingers and a thumb?
that could look quite good and would need too much effort. Long fingers also are easier when someone is holding something as you dont have to draw the end of the fingers
(, Wed 11 Jan 2006, 11:11, archived)
# The thumb probably wouldn't be visible holding his ray-gun anyway
But yes, longer fingers would mean i could get away with just lines. You're a sneaky sort, and I like it. Cheers!
