It seems that if I have a background image then all the others are shown one at a time, but otherwise they are piled up.
This kind of defeats the object of transparent imagery.

When you right-click a frame
do you get a menu asking "Automatic, Do Not Dispose, Restore to Background" ?
Make sure it's not "Do Not Dispose".

I had that problem in ImageReady
and so I switched over to Fireworks, and I haven't had it since. But I'm still two iterations behind in both programs (cheap bastard).
