when it was released in 1989 solidifed nintendo as the number one home console manufacturers at the time, the NES was in fact the beginning of nintendo making home console games.
NES stands for nintendo entertainment system. and was the first home console to successfully incorporate a lightgun into it's games.

in those days, you didn't say "i'm going to play some video games" it was "i'm going to play some nintendo."
