i thought it was very good, yes
a breath of fresh air. the chapter on memetic theory is a bit dull though, and he displays a bit of self-importance here and there. but his ideas on non-religious morality and society's mindless tolerance of religion are spot on.

it's a misapprehension - he's not talking about a gene that causes selfishness, he's saying that genes are selfish and biological organisms are slaves to the demands of genetic perpetuation. it's the selfish gene, not the selfish gene.

before this thread wanders off, i'd like to recommend the books by Ian Stewart and Jack Cohen. They even did some co-operative books with Terry Pratchett on that issue. In a wider context.
