it would be quite interesting to see how many people are viewing the main board at any given time, see how many lurkers there are!

I can see why you might not want to be seen viewing, but a number as opposed to actual usernames. So, 'This page is being viewed by... 80 members and 50 guests' type of thing.

which makes this sort of thing difficult.

Someone logs in, views the main board, then buggers off elsewhere, how long after they visited /board do you consider them still to be 'viewing' it?
