When I worked in a department store I had to ask 'How would you like to pay?' before even ringing the items into the till. The stone age system had different slips for credit cards, storecards and cash.
The number of people who said 'I wouldn't like to pay at all, harharhar' was very large.
I hated them all with a passion. It wasn't my fault I had a stupid till and had to ask the stupid question.
/end rant

I could add tons to that.
My fave being the woman who kept nagging for a discount (in a food shop ffs) so to stop her whinges I gave her a couple of bags of crisps that had just past their expiry date (and I explained that to her but she wasn't bothered).
The next day she phoned to complain that we had "sold her outdated crisps" and demanded a full refund.

see, if you in a position of what is assumed to be reasonable authority and do something "nice" you can end up with hassle for it
