looks fine to me.
if you want to take some of the harshness out of it you could always feather your selections before filling them, or fill them with a modified gradient fill ( modify it so the very outer edges get the fade ). If you are using A.I. you could always try the gradient mesh route. ( I think it's hard to learn that stuff but by christ it gives professional results. )
