I usually dismiss reports as sounding too much like Dail Mail stories but many people close to me have confirmed what you have said.

This place is far from perfect but I love it warts and all.

If you have the right attitude (and I believe you do) you can make it almost anywhere*.

Because B3ta is portable! :)

*Excludes places like Zimbabwe, DRC, Iraq, Columbia, etc
