on the rip much narrower and a dark grey. They need only be a couple of pixels wide to get the right effect I'd say.

This is very good advice. I thought of doing that when I uploaded the image (I actually made it a while ago but never posted it), but then couldn't be bothered to go back into Photoshop because I feel like someone has stuffed most of a large melted cheese up my nostrils, which has cooled to a tacky mess and is making its way back out in awkward and disgusting increments. Some of it may also be lining my throat, but it's obviously long out of date because every now and then I can taste it, and it's vile and is making me want to puke.

Thank you for the advice, I like this image enough to probably get around to doing that at some later point :)
Edit: originally it was going to be a wall rather than just a thin rip, which is why it's like that, but I obviously got distracted with other ideas and never stood back to notice
