hahahah!great blurb mate. on compression, if your using photoshop, press alt, ctrl, and shift with s, and you will be able to save for web, the box on the right hand size lets you choose lossy setting etc which will make the pic smaller, same thing for ani gifs.

lossy stands forlosless, and basically it means that at 0 lossy, you lose no bits in compression, and at the highest youll see that the pic is all fuzzy and distorted where the proggy has tried to blend colours and suchlike.
