The problem is that if somebody (anyone - other staff around the office, your managers, other managers, the cleaners, various contractors) sees nasty shit on your computer and feels litigious, they can get a large cash payout from the company.
I have to warn people about it all the time (I have a team of degenerate deviants - I hired them myself). I'm not going to fire anyone for a problem that didn't occur, but some things just aren't cool. It's like whacking off on the bus and calling people prudes if they get upset.

i think that is a good part of it, but i also think it's used as a convenient excuse so those gentle souls who live sheltered lives can have a firm base to build their arguments from.
i think the more close analogy would be someone getting miffed because i was on a bus not wacking off but looking at a book of pictures which seemed erotic or pornographic when glanced at if you were to invade my space and peer into the book i'm holding.
or am i nuts?

A rare state of being in this world. Don't stop now.

except rather than reading a book, you were holding a poster out in front of you and at least 5 other people could see.

i just think we devolve when we have to pretend to be concerned with what the most sensitive people fear 100% of the time.
i'm all for being polite, just not for being forced to be polite at gunpoint.

I mean for fuck's sake, either shit or get off the pot.
That's what I'd say to those guntoters.

I make sure I don't employ easily offended people. Those types usually leave during the interview.
