# It's true.
I have to hide my love of her from my Father, as he has a love of French 60s music, and would use it as bonding material.

# may i marry you and your father?
french 60s music is one of my big loves. it's so crap and kitsch and dodgy it becomes brilliant for all the campness and shit. i love it.

# Ha, you're right...
The thing is, my Dad has a genuine love for the stuff. It's his life passion, with no element of camp or irony at all. He goes on holiday to France and spends hours in huge warehouses of records, looking for additions to (already huge) collection.

My Dad's collection of French vinyl (especially 45s) is such that he's told me that if anything happens to him and I want to get rid of his French records I HAVE to go through a dealer who knows their stuff because it's all too valuable to do otherwise. My head is full of French pop star names from when he's told me all these factual nuggets about each musician. Do I remember any facts from my Philosophy degree? No. I remember the fact that Mike Brant (singer of 'Dis Lui') committed suicide after going mad, having been told this, any many other French pop facts, throughout my growing-up years.

Apologies, I've been drinking wine.

# i like the sound of his record collection
sad thing is most of it's worth shit over here unless it's an english pressing or someone well known like bardot or gainsbourg.
well it's all worth something to the right people, but not an awful lot. but things like a uk lp of serge gainsbourgand and jane birkin is a good few hundren quid.
but i no so little about the french record market and surely some of it must be worth a lot over there.
a friend of mine ventures out there and normally comes back with stacks of great 45's with picture sleeves and european eps.

probably half the reason i have a many francoise hardly lp's as i do is their so cheap to buy (i must have about 15 now and a few eps)

# It's true
We've actually discussed what to do when the morbid occurs. Basically, catalogue everything (if he hasn't already...I know he started doing it), go off to France, get quotes. While nobody has heard of Richard Anthony or Michel Sardou over here, all his records together are very desirable on the other side of the pond.

I must admit, there are a few songs here and there that I enjoy guiltily. And I certainly inherited a love of Bardot from him; both her music and aesthetic appeal...

# old bardot...shame she can't sing a fucking note in tune
but she is great and she makes it work.

# It's true
Like a lot of people, she'd have been nothing without Serge Gainsburg though.

# Hmm...
Three of my last four messages began with the phrase "It's true". I am obviously a very boring person.
