yeah the program can put a GR overlay on your picture for you to use as a template of sorts

Rather pointless though.
If you are using a multi hundred pound painting program you should be able to understand and interpret basic composition.

I've only played around on Painter briefly....
...so I can't give an unbiased opinion. But I think Photoshop is a more precise tool than painter, and you CAN get the same painted-look to an image created in it as in Painter.
