the main reason that it will never work
with these two sources is the light. Even if you can't see why ( I mean the general viewer ) your head is 'hard-wired' into what looks correct and outdoors we have one light source. As soon as the shadows oppose you automatically think something is wrong so its the first thing to consider when finding sources.
You want people to be thinking 'how did he do that?' rather than 'what exactly is it that seems wrong about that?'.
edit:// and sorry. I don't mean to put you down. I hope you take it that I think you are on the right track and just need to remember a few things for future stuff. I do actually mean to help ;)

No probs
I do normally pay more attention to the light source and the shadows and that sort of stuff.
I can definitely see the faults in the above image.
It's all a learning curve for me, I just do this stuff for fun and giggles really, but it's nice to learn of things I can improve on.
