It's pretty old, yeah.
It does this every couple of days. Oh, it's just turned on now after 20 minutes of trying.
It also occasionally turns itself off while switched on.

Picture cuts out (but not sound) - only image on screen is a flickering line.
I found that turning it off, smacking the back casing a few times, then turning it back on works...
The set is maybe 10-15 years old.

Mine turns itself off entirely.
No sound or anything. It sometimes turns itself back on again after a few seconds though.

Sounds like it's knackered
Failing capacitor or summat. Recommend you scrap it and buy a nice new one.
John Lewis give a 5-year warranty on all new tellies, which is nice. Richer Sounds is pretty good too...
