# What happens if someone breaks the key to your back door
or your heart or your bike chain or your garage or your padlock. Because I might have sat on one of them by mistake.

# Hooray for the Das Keyboard.
That seems to be version 1 though, I believe.
They've revamped it since then.

# Das keyboard is for idiots.
Any sane person would just turn the lights in your room out.

# 1. I don't wish to go blind in a dark room with a bright screen
2. They have a really nice tactile response
3. They last forever
4. They're not that expensive any more
(, Sat 23 Aug 2008, 18:30, archived)
# That wouldn't make you go blind.
The people who say that are also the same people who tell you not to go swimming after eating, i.e idiots.
(, Sat 23 Aug 2008, 18:33, archived)
# It's a strain on the eyes. I can feel this.
Having the light on helps to focus on the rest of the room every now and then to relax the eye muscles.

Don't try and science me, boyo.

Swimming after eating is bullshit, true. It's not wonderfully fun to go swimming after eating a full english breakfast though.
(, Sat 23 Aug 2008, 18:39, archived)
# That's just because eating a full english breakfast isn't a wonderful experience to begin with.
It's more ballast than it is food.

A dim lcd screen in the dark does very little to your eyes, also light levels only effect the iris and not muscles which control the lens anyway.
(, Sat 23 Aug 2008, 18:45, archived)
# It's the equivalent of holding your arm up in the air for a long time.
Eventually it becomes fatigued and beings to ache.

You have to lower it for the pain to subside.

The lens defaults to middle distance, and both near and far sighting puts the muscles of the lense under strain.

Thus why it is recommended to get up and look at far away things every hour or so.

It is difficult to focus on far away things in the dark, thus it is better to have the light on.

Also, yes, it affects the iris.
