# Shouldn't the shadow get bigger as it rises?
Put your hand above your desk/table and under a lamp. Move your hand up and down. As your hand gets closer to the light source (i.e. higher) the shadow gets bigger.

Very woo though.

# depends if the light source is bigger than the hamster
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 17:12, archived)
# which it isn't
*doesn't actually know*

but it looks right, doesn't it?

# I think the shadow needs to blur more
when the... thing... is higher up?

# Does it?
I can't work it out either way.

# I think it's right, isn't it?
ARGH MY MIND!

# wouldn't the shadow get
less distinct (lower opacity) the higher it was?
(, Sun 31 Aug 2008, 17:18, archived)
# yup
i think that we've gone too far into the realm of physics considering the object of our attentions is in fact a hovering spherical hamster

# yes, althought you'd expect blurrier edges.
it's what shadows look like on an overcast day.

# imagine if there were two seperate light sources
if the hamster was up high, they'd cast seperate shadows. then as it got closer to the ground they'd start to overlap, and if the hamster was squished out at ground level they'd be totally overlapping
