Because I've thought for a long time that you should be willing to take responsibility for your food
My mum keeps chickens and sheep, I've seen both grow, even helped birth some, and eaten those exact same ones. I've snapped the neck of a chicken, I've driven lambs to the slaughter house (not done it myself, that would be cruel, it takes skill), it isn't pleasant but at least I know they have had a good life.
I saw some pigs a few days ago and it's the first time I've ever actually seen and touched them, and really made the connection for how smart they're supposed to be. Something feels really wrong there, I'm not sure I could raise one and then get it slaughtered for food. And if I couldn't do that then I don't feel like I deserve to eat pork.
I'm still mulling it over, but it's not easily resolved as yet.

Fair enough, sounds like good reasoning.
I'm not sure if I could cut back entirely on bacon though.

No, I have never eaten much pork
But that's just because it's not something I think to buy, I eat plenty of bacon though. It's delicious.
