# I voted No
Its an interesting idea for a compo but the trouble is because its so vague people just photoshop or a horse (or more likely pearoast a horse picture) and expect thunderous applause.

Like most things its not a bad idea for a compo its just people are so lazy and desperate to be noticed they will use any tenuous link for an excuse to post a pic.

# surely this is the same with all compos nowadays?

# as with most things, the end user is to blame.
oh, and i did have another image challenge suggestion once:

not a challenge suggestion, rather a modification in the manner in which challenges are implemented.

challenges stay open for six days instead of seven. they get announced as usual, but no entries may be posted until 24 hours have elapsed. that way people are encouraged (not forced, mind) to think a little, and perhaps make a picture and then reject it as crap before they post it.

again, search doesn't want me to link to it.

# This would be a start.
and move the challenge to worth 1000, yes, this works for me ;)

# nah, worth is full of crap too.

# I know.
But they do try. And some of the people there are extremely talented.
I just put it down to a complete lack of consideration for others and too much value placed on their 'work' here at b3ta.
Frankly I look at the majority of stuff posted here and I just have to ask myself "how is this person not embarrassed beyond belief?"

# easy: i have no shame.
and we're all at different points on the learning curves of the software we employ. i know very little, some people know less (frightening thought), but i care for effort, skill, imagination and wit - sometimes a seamhorse is the right thing at the right time.

# ...this weeks compo is not the right time...
or place!
The internet is a great place to post things that you couldn't get away with in real life
real life "hey i drew this" ha ha ha thats shit "oh :("
internets "hey i drew this" ha ha ha thats shit "*ignores*" :)

# I was not thinking of talent
as we all sit in various spots on a curve with quite a few much further along than us mortals.
More the "what the fuck was in your head that made you think this idea was either funny or appropriate?" kind of thing.

# people will still repost their old junk.... just 24 hours later
and read between the lines and post whatever they want and say "lol compo entry"
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:26, archived)
# simple: no reposts for compos.
easy to say, hard to police. but it doesn't really need to be policed, we can use the honour system (and the mighty memory and search skills of our members).
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:30, archived)
# *sigh*
if only it where that simple :)
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:36, archived)
# it is, though.
nawty step might get crowded, admittedly.

# The problem is that there are no rules on b3ta
it's the only rule. However after a brief conversation with Rob this afternoon to clarify this he re-iterated his position that images should not be posted again as the start of a new thread ( I took this to mean all images and not just challenge entries ).
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:38, archived)
# well, there is a blur between guidelines and rules, here and in life.
anyway, this conversation is now long enough that we're in danger of taking serious a photoshop compo on a website that we loll about on in our spare time - that too violates the spirit of b3ta, so i'll abandon this until a get another wild hair.

and, it's time to go do realworld stuff, so you kids have fun.
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:47, archived)
# don't worry about it. You can ask me this every week and get the same answer.
