there were far better compo suggestions (and i still want my collaboration compo to happen).

# name one
provide a link so that people may click please
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:09, archived)
# ok.
tga suggested the daily mail.

and because search is borked for old offboard stuff, i can't link you to my collaborative suggestion, but the evidence of it is here.

i don't dislike the compo, i just would have liked something else. there are too many object/noun compos - why not concept ones, or verb/action compos or total freakshow ones, where we have to actually DO something rather than gis a word or two and drunkenly lurch around photoshop for fifteen minutes?
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:18, archived)
# i'm sure daily mail have lawyers etc...
just another "pr!nce" waiting to happen...
concept? how many hand gliding horses have you seen... adrenaline junkie horses... can't get much more action than that... or freakshow for that matter...
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:22, archived)
# fuck that disgusting midget and the tabloid too.
the problem isn't your suggestion so mush as it is the lack of imagination of people posting. this either means that we should be harsh to the failpics or we should encourage goodpics (or do both).

hey, i like your suggestion more than anything involving popstars or films or politicians, and at least it's not uk- or us-centric.
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:27, archived)
# :)

# because the image challenge is always shit and ruins the board for me up until at least Sunday
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:09, archived)
# how is that my fault for suggesting something to fill the board will until sunday?
surely this happens every week?
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:10, archived)
# yep. Nothing to do with you at all.
I just find it sad that every week the image challenge is a mixture of old stuff ( most of it crap and from lurkers ) reposted in a new thread, or quick and shit because they are desperate to get something on there. Or completely and utterly not fitting the brief whatsoever because 99% of people can't read a challenge without fixating on one word.

As I said earlier something, something, something, something, something, HORSES something, something, COMPO IT.
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:14, archived)
# i did try to make it very clear
but fraser reworded it
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:16, archived)
# As I said, not in the slightest
aimed at you mate. I just dislike what the challenge does to the board and I'd prefer that image challenges were posted on a separate board for people to browse at their leisure and so leaving this part fro for people to post their stuff without as much chance of it being swamped in shit and consigned to obscurity in minutes.
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:21, archived)
# i too have said this..
there should be an "ignore this weeks compo" button :)
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:24, archived)
# *disguises self as paperclip and taps on your monitor*

(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:16, archived)
# I've never had a compo suggestion actually turn into a compo
if i can have an understanding of why people do not like compo ideas, i maybe able to suggest better alternatives to help keep the b3ta community alive and happy :)
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:19, archived)
# pfft, you had your chance and you blew it, buster.
Get out of my sight.

Don't worry, it's a joke and I know what you mean ;)

(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:29, archived)
# I voted No
Its an interesting idea for a compo but the trouble is because its so vague people just photoshop or a horse (or more likely pearoast a horse picture) and expect thunderous applause.

Like most things its not a bad idea for a compo its just people are so lazy and desperate to be noticed they will use any tenuous link for an excuse to post a pic.
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:15, archived)
# surely this is the same with all compos nowadays?
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:16, archived)
# as with most things, the end user is to blame.
oh, and i did have another image challenge suggestion once:

not a challenge suggestion, rather a modification in the manner in which challenges are implemented.

challenges stay open for six days instead of seven. they get announced as usual, but no entries may be posted until 24 hours have elapsed. that way people are encouraged (not forced, mind) to think a little, and perhaps make a picture and then reject it as crap before they post it.

again, search doesn't want me to link to it.

(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:22, archived)
# This would be a start.
and move the challenge to worth 1000, yes, this works for me ;)
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:25, archived)
# nah, worth is full of crap too.
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:29, archived)
# I know.
But they do try. And some of the people there are extremely talented.
I just put it down to a complete lack of consideration for others and too much value placed on their 'work' here at b3ta.
Frankly I look at the majority of stuff posted here and I just have to ask myself "how is this person not embarrassed beyond belief?"
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:34, archived)
# easy: i have no shame.
and we're all at different points on the learning curves of the software we employ. i know very little, some people know less (frightening thought), but i care for effort, skill, imagination and wit - sometimes a seamhorse is the right thing at the right time.
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:39, archived)
# ...this weeks compo is not the right time...
or place!
The internet is a great place to post things that you couldn't get away with in real life
real life "hey i drew this" ha ha ha thats shit "oh :("
internets "hey i drew this" ha ha ha thats shit "*ignores*" :)
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:43, archived)
# I was not thinking of talent
as we all sit in various spots on a curve with quite a few much further along than us mortals.
More the "what the fuck was in your head that made you think this idea was either funny or appropriate?" kind of thing.
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:43, archived)
# people will still repost their old junk.... just 24 hours later
and read between the lines and post whatever they want and say "lol compo entry"
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:26, archived)
# simple: no reposts for compos.
easy to say, hard to police. but it doesn't really need to be policed, we can use the honour system (and the mighty memory and search skills of our members).
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:30, archived)
# *sigh*
if only it where that simple :)
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:36, archived)
# it is, though.
nawty step might get crowded, admittedly.
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:43, archived)
# The problem is that there are no rules on b3ta
it's the only rule. However after a brief conversation with Rob this afternoon to clarify this he re-iterated his position that images should not be posted again as the start of a new thread ( I took this to mean all images and not just challenge entries ).
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:38, archived)
# well, there is a blur between guidelines and rules, here and in life.
anyway, this conversation is now long enough that we're in danger of taking serious a photoshop compo on a website that we loll about on in our spare time - that too violates the spirit of b3ta, so i'll abandon this until a get another wild hair.

and, it's time to go do realworld stuff, so you kids have fun.
(, Thu 23 Oct 2008, 20:47, archived)
# don't worry about it. You can ask me this every week and get the same answer.
